About Me

Hi, I'm David Walesby, a Fullstack Software Engineer based out of the GTA(Ontario, Canada). For the past six years, I've been immersed in the world of digital product creation, focusing on building experiences that are not just functional, but genuinely intuitive and engaging for users. Currently I've been working at my own startup, Encremoi a marketplace platform for tattoo artists and clients to connect, share and book appointments.

Education

My journey into the world of software started at Mohawk College, where I earned an Ontario College Advanced Diploma in Software Development. During my studies I had the opportunity to work at two different government agencies, Ontario's Ministry of the Solicitor General and Indigenous Services Canada, where I gained hands-on experience in developing web applications that served important real-world needs.

Professional Experiences

Grantek (2020 -> 2022)

After graduation, I joined Grantek where I worked as a Fullstack Developer for 2.5 years on many different projects, focused mainly on building internal tools and dashboards for project managers and finance teams. Here, I honed my skills in both frontend and backend development, working with technologies like PHP, Vue.js, and SQL databases.

TripleLift (2022 -> 2024)

After Grantek I joined TripleLift, a programmatic native advertising company as a Fullstack Software Engineer where I got the opportunity to work on two different teams(Velocity, CTV) which handled very different projects and technical stacks.

Velocity Team

On Velocity(PHP, Java, React, Python, Node), I worked with a large team to maintain and upgrade their main legacy system into a modernized microservice architecture. Here I worked on a very high scale team (400 Million external requests daily) and learned a lot about building scalable, secure and reliable systems.

Connected Television Team

After 8 months I had the opportunity to move to TripleLift's Connected Television team(Kotlin, React, Node, Java) where I stayed for a year, here I worked on building a new platform from the ground up to generate(Ingest video and find scenes it's possible to insert advertising into via blank walls or product placement) and serve ads to connected tv devices/streaming services.

Encremoi (2024 -> Current)

After my time at TripleLift, I decided to take the leap into entrepreneurship and co-founded Encremoi with my partner. As a Fullstack Software Engineer, I've been deeply involved in every aspect of the product development lifecycle, from initial concept and design to deployment and ongoing maintenance. Using technologies like .Net, Nuxt.js, and Google Cloud Platform, I've been able to apply my skills to create a platform that truly meets the needs of tattoo artists and clients alike.

My Development Philosophy

My development philosophy is rooted in problem-solving and simplicity. I believe great development starts with having a deep understanding of the 'why' i.e. the user's needs, motivations, and pain points. On the frontend, I strive to create interfaces that feel effortless to use, are functional and familiar. Whether I'm crafting great UIs/UXs or writing clean Vue.js/Nuxt.js code, my focus is always on creating value for the end-user. On the backend, I prioritize building robust, scalable systems using which ever technology best fits the project requirements, be it Node.js, C#, Kotlin or PHP. I pay close attention to security best practices, data integrity, and performance optimization to ensure the systems I build can handle real-world demands.

What Keeps Me Motivated

The constant learning and the challenges in translating complex ideas into simple, elegant solutions. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing a system being deployed to production and knowing it's making someone's work easier or more efficent.

Beyond Work

When I'm not meeting with clients about work or coding, I spend my free time gaming/streaming on twitch/youtube, playing dnd, attending concerts, swimming, in nature or spending time with my partner and pets!
